To Heal Vertigo and Dizziness Naturally
Understanding Vertigo
Vertigo is most often
caused by problems within the inner ear, where our sense of balance is
controlled. Tiny calcium crystals can sometimes become dislodged and move into
the inner ear canals, irritating the delicate membranes and causing
inflammation. This disrupts the ear’s ability to send accurate signals to the
brain about position and movement, resulting in sensations of spinning,
dizziness, or imbalance.
In some cases, vertigo
may also occur due to more serious conditions such as a stroke, tumour, or
severe head or neck injury. If you experience sudden or persistent vertigo,
it’s important to have a medical assessment. Your doctor can refer you to a vestibular
specialist, who can evaluate the cause and recommend appropriate treatment.
Did you know that
activation of the vagus nerve keeps your immune system in check and releases an
assortment of hormones and neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine and
oxytocin. This results in reductions in inflammation, reduced allergies, relief
from tension headaches, improvements in memory, and feelings of relaxation
(Groves & Brown, 2005).

oxytocin. This results in reductions in inflammation, reduced allergies, relief

(Groves & Brown, 2005).
The vagus nerve passes
through the belly, diaphragm, lungs, throat, inner ear, and facial muscles.
Importantly, 80 percent of vagus nerve fibers are afferent or sensory nerves
which means that they communicate messages from your body back up to your central
nervous system. That means that when you move and breathe into these areas of
the body, you can influence the functioning of your vagus nerve. Yoga, deep breathing,
and movement practices help stimulate and balance the vagus nerve.
Splashing cold water
on your temple can stimulate nerves, particularly the vagus nerve, which can
have a calming effect. This method triggers the diving reflex, a natural
response that helps slow your heart rate, increase blood flow to the brain, and
activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting a "rest and
digest" state to counteract stress.
In the meantime,
this is what my family have found a to be-
a great home care solution.
To Reset Ear Crystals.
1. Sit on the edge of your bed. Turn your
head 45 degrees to the right.
2.
Quickly lie down on your left side. Stay there for 30 seconds.
3. Quickly move to lie down on the opposite
end of your bed. Still on your left side. ...
4.
Return slowly to sitting and wait a few minutes.
5. Reverse these moves for the right ear.
6.
Keep hydrated
7. Get a good nights sleep
8.
Pull the ears “Insert your index finger in your ear canal opening and gently
pull the ear upward, forward and downward. This will regulate intracranial
pressure, which will greatly relieve the feeling of dizziness”
If
you have long nails, wrap your finger in a face cloth.
The Valsalva Maneuver (Simple Explanation)
The Valsalva maneuver is a breathing
technique where you take a deep breath, close your mouth and nose, and gently
try to exhale without letting air out — as if blowing up a balloon while
holding your breath. This increases pressure in your chest and affects your
heart and circulation.
How to Do It
1. Take a deep breath in.
2. Close your mouth and pinch your nose nostrils.
3. Gently try to blow out for about 10–15 seconds.
4. Then relax and breathe normally.
Common Uses
· Equalize ear pressure when flying or diving.
· Slow a fast heartbeat (SVT) by stimulating the vagus nerve.
·
Support bowel movement by
increasing abdominal pressure.
How It Works
The pressure briefly reduces blood flow to
the heart, which triggers a reflex that can slow the heart rate and rebalance
circulation.
Caution
Avoid if you have heart disease, high blood
pressure, or eye problems unless advised by a healthcare professional.
Inhalations
Inhaling essential oils stimulates the
olfactory system, the part of the brain connected to smell, including the nose
and the brain.

Inhalations to
Clear and Calm
Inhalation therapy
gently clears the nose, throat, and ear canals by loosening mucus and
reducing inflammation. Steam inhalation delivers warm, moist air that helps
thin and drain thick mucus from the nasal passages and Eustachian tubes
— the small channels that connect the middle ear to the back of the throat.
This process improves airflow and relieves the pressure and stuffiness often
linked to congestion, colds, allergies, or sinus issues.
How Inhalation
Helps Each Area
- Nose: Warm, moist air softens and loosens thick mucus, making it easier
to clear.
- Throat: Steam soothes irritated tissues and helps drain mucus that causes
discomfort.
- Ears: When the Eustachian tubes become blocked by mucus or swelling,
inhaling steam helps open them. This allows trapped fluid to drain from
the middle ear, easing pressure, fullness, or mild dizziness.
Inhalations with essential
oils have been used since ancient times to support balance and healing. As
aromatic molecules reach the brain, they cross the blood–brain barrier
and influence the limbic system — the area connected to emotion, heart
rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress response, and hormone balance.
In this way, essential oils can bring a subtle yet holistic sense of harmony to
the entire body.
Topical
Applications
Essential oils can
also be used in massage oils, baths, and skincare products. When
massaged gently into the skin, they improve circulation and enhance absorption.
Areas rich in sweat glands and hair follicles — such as the scalp, chest, or
palms — tend to absorb oils more efficiently.
Important:
Essential oils must always be diluted before use. A safe guideline is 1–3
drops of essential oil to 1 teaspoon (5 mL) of carrier oil.
Common carrier oils
include sweet almond oil and cold-pressed olive oil.
A Gentle Family
Remedy
In my own family,
we’ve found comfort using this simple method for easing ear discomfort:
- Mix 1 drop of lavender essential oil
with 1 teaspoon of olive oil.
- Hold the spoon over a small flame (a match
or lighter) just long enough to warm the oil gently — never hot.
- Test the warmth on your wrist first; it
should feel as warm as a baby’s milk.
- Tilt your head with the left ear facing
upward
- Using an eyedropper, place 2-4 drops of
the warmed oil into the ear canal while lying on your side.
- Maintain this position for 5-10 minutes to
allow the solution to penetrate
- Tilt your head in the opposite direction
to let excess fluid drain out
- Rest for a few minutes, then repeat on the
other side if needed.
- Each ear may need a warm, wet face cloth gently
pressed slightly inside the ear in a patting motion to remove wax. Be
gentle and do not use the corner of the facecloth it may go inside the ear
too far.
⚠️ Warning: Never use this method if there
is ear pain, discharge, infection, or a ruptured eardrum. The oil should always
be lukewarm — never hot.
From my earliest
memories, I’ve always believed that nature holds the answers to our wellbeing.
My passion for organic products began long before they became fashionable—it’s
a legacy passed down through generations of my family. My mother, Karoleen, taught
me the wisdom of using pure, natural ingredients to care for both body and
soul.
Today, through Karoleen
Keys Organic Perfumer, I’m honoured to share that same wisdom with you.
Every creation celebrates the beauty of nature and the gentle balance it brings
to our lives.
When you discover, as
I did, that organic products are truly the best, I invite you to visit my
website and explore the difference for yourself.
